Welcome to the Reza Hedayat Research Group web page at Colorado School of Mines. The main objectives of our research are to address some of the fundamental issues of geotechnical engineering as applied to tunnels and underground structures and to advance our understanding of materials behavior through multidisciplinary and multiscale approaches. In our research, we use geophysical methods and wave analysis to observe what is happening inside the materials and the ground with the aim of understanding multiscale physical processes like slip, failure, earthquake, and fracturing.
Our research interests focus on multiscale experimental study of soils and rocks, non-destructive characterization of ground condition in tunnels, rock and fracture mechanics, applied geophysics and wave propagation, laboratory earthquakes, hydro-mechanical properties of shales, laboratory investigation of hydraulic fracturing, fluid flow through porous and fractured media, and ground-support interaction in tunnels.
